Return to Races

The Sakor’akais are the newest race to appear on Habololy. Falan, the god of necromancy, brought them to the world. It is rumored that he tricked the other deities and circumvented the ban of creating new races or lands. Some of the other deities took great offense to this and have cursed the Sakor’akais. This has caused many Sakor’akais to become very devout worshipers of the deities in hopes that the curse will bypass them.

Since their appearance, the Sakor’akais have made homes for themselves wherever it was possible. They tend to enjoy warmer climates and forests or jungles. The most successful group lives in the Hiding Forest and has formed a nation with the Nipits, another maligned race. Their culture is based around worship and craft. Honor is highly regarded, but not at the expense of life or freedom. Devotion is also very important, but fanaticism is a trap that Sakor’akais try to avoid. Sakor’akais love their freedom and the ability to take flight at a moments notice should the mood arise. This freedom is tempered by the responsibility of the individual to the community, which is paramount to the survival of the race.

Since their arrival nearly six centuries ago, the Sakor’akais have made it to every non-arctic area of Habololy. The curse that seems to follow them has ended some of those journeys, such as the massacre in the nation of Thalmeret where an entire community of Sakor’akais was wiped out by a vicious storm. Some nations have barred their entry, while others try to keep their number in check. Most other races try to avoid the Sakor’akais, fearing their curse. This has lead to isolation and segregation in many places. Fortunately for the Sakor’akais, they tend to obey the laws of the land they are in, and don’t cause much trouble.

Despite all of these setbacks, the Sakor’akais are a race with a purpose. They have an intimate knowledge of dragons, which they used to great effect during The Hunt years ago. They also have a hatred for the Vishtoo, who have become their mortal enemies. Many Sakor’akais will spend their lives hunting down these evils, and be satisfied with a death that involves fighting them.

After their appearance, the Counsil laid down new laws governing new races. It is likely that the Sakor’akais are the last new race that will ever appear on Habololy.

APPEARANCE: Sakor’akais are a reptilian, but warm-blooded, race. They are covered in scales and have no fur or hair. Much like a dragon, which is to the dismay of many who see them flying above, Sakor’akais have large leathery wings. These wings stretch out to a span of 12 to 14 ft when in flight. It is impossible to hide these wings, even when folded back. They have five fingers and toes on each hand and foot, and have a small amount of webbing in between them. Since they have no tail, this is how they maneuver when flying. Females are smaller in stature than the males, and less muscular. Their bodies are otherwise shaped similarly.

They stand between 5½ and 7 ft. tall and weigh on average 175 lbs. They are lighter than one would expect so that they can fly without difficulty. There are no obese Sakor’akais, as they only eat what they need to make it through the day’s activities. Their bodies are sculpted, and their legs and arms are long.

A Sakor’akai’s face is probably the most intriguing part of the body to other races. The face of a Sakor’akai shimmers as if it were a wet diamond struck by sunlight. Only the eyes and ears are clearly visible from the front. Their ears are actually fins which stick out from either side of their head and run about half the way from top to bottom. They have a nose, but it is flat and nearly unrecognizable behind the shimmer of their face.

Sakor’akais range in color from light green to dark blue, with an occasional black-scaled Sakor’akai reported. Their eyes are always dark in color and have no white in them. Females tend to be lighter in coloring than the males.

Clothing in kept to a minimum by the Sakor’akais. Modesty and battle are the two main reasons to wear clothing. A Sakor’akai proverb says that if one is too cold, one is probably living in the wrong place. Shirts are seldom worn. Leather trunks that only go from waist to knee are the most common piece of clothing worn. Wool is the most preferred material of any blankets, cloaks, or robes. Any armor is light so as to allow the Sakor’akai to comfortably fly. Footwear is infrequently used.

ALIGNMENT: The Sakor’akais are a free race. Although this usually to mean that they are chaotic, it also means that each is free to choose a path, so neutral and lawful Sakor’akais exist as well. Sakor’akais are mostly good in nature.

RELIGION: Devotion is very important to all Sakor’akais, and hence everyone has a strong sense of religion. Falan is seen as the creator and father. In a strange twist, Han~Sui, nearly the antithesis of Falan, is widely worshipped as the weapon master, a fact that has lead to the Bladelords. This group has a schizophrenic belief system, which reveres creativity and unwavering adherence to certain laws. Tfop is also important for those who want to overcome the curse.
